Ira Wikel – IRT 5 – Positional Release and Strain Counter Strain Techniques
Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Sunday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.
Please wear shorts and bring sheets for this class.
Positional Release Technique is a method of total body evaluation using tender points [TP’s] and a position of ease [POE] to resolve the associated dysfunction. This technique is well suited for clients that are in a great deal of discomfort such as Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia rheumatic or chronic fatigue syndrome, because the client’s body part is moved away from the resistance barrier, i.e., the direction of greatest ease.
Furthermore, these techniques are passive, the therapist performs all the movement without the help of the client. All three planes of movement are used to attain the position of greatest comfort. Once the most severe tender points are found, they are palpated as a guide to help find the POE. The POE produces optimal relaxation of the involved tissues.
Integrated Restoration Techniques [IRT] is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT. A licensed massage therapist since 1982, Ira had been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After several hundred hours of continuation education, he put together this ‘greatest hits’ package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and look forward to teaching more massage therapists these methods.
Pat Barnes is a licensed massage therapist who graduated from ASHA School of Massage and then joined the staff there teaching with Ira Wikel. Pat has also taught Sports Therapy and Myofascial Release for Gwinnett College, Sandy Springs. Pat uses the principles of IRT in his daily practice. The addition of a second instructor in the IRT series ensures that each student will get the most of their hands-on instruction.
This is a hands on class please wear comfortable, loose clothing and shorts as we will be both assessing and correcting full body dysfunctions.
All of Ira’s classes come with a 50 page workbook.
