Description:
Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.
This two day class focuses on the principals and philosophies of Russian style sport massage. The Russians have been using massage at athletic events since 1927. The work is based on scientific and medical investigation dating back to 1881.
Please wear shorts and bring sheets for this class.
The class will present both pre and post event techniques including multiple types of effleurage, friction, vibration, range of motion and muscle energy. Also being covered will be the effects of massage on the skin, muscle, connective tissue, tendon, ligament, joints and nervous systems. Each massage stroke is designed to produce specific results. We will cover both Pre and Post event techniques, injuries, heat and cold applications, neurological and structural assessments. These applications will apply to both professional, world and weekend athletes. All techniques are designed to be pain free for both the athlete as well as the therapist. The class will cover how to recognize and treat five specific sport injuries.
Integrated Restoration Techniques is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT. A massage therapist since 1982, Ira has been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After thirty years of continuing education classes, he put together this ‘greatest hits’ package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and looks forward to sharing this unique, pain-free method with fellow massage therapists.
Pat Barnes is a licensed massage therapist who graduated from ASHA School of Massage and then joined the staff there teaching with Ira Wikel. Pat has also taught Sports Therapy and Myofascial Release for Gwinnett College, Sandy Springs. Pat uses the principles of IRT in his daily practice. The addition of a second instructor in the IRT series ensures that each student will get the most of their hands-on instruction.
This is a hands on class pleases wear comfortable, loose clothing and shorts as we will be both assessing and correcting distortions or dysfunctions. Includes a seventy-page workbook.
