Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.
Fascia is a layer of fibrous tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, binding some structures together while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other. This class is a Direct Fascial technique with thirty specific routines included.
Fascia is continuous with specialized elements of fascia such as tendons and ligaments. Tendons and ligaments share with the general fascia collagen fibers, elastic fibers, cellular elements and ground substances. Mechanorecptors and proprioceptors are found in these specialized elements and report to the brain and spinal cord information on body position and movement.
By working with the fascial envelope you can begin to correct any mal-alignments of the body including: postural, positional, work or sport related, as well as physical and emotional issues.
Integrated Restoration Techniques is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT. A massage therapist since 1982, Ira has been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After thirty years of continuing education classes, he put together this ‘greatest hits’ package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and looks forward to teaching more therapists these methods.
This class is a Direct Fascial technique class designed to align the body from top to bottom, front to back and side to side. This class is designed to be PAIN FREE.
Pat Barnes is a licensed massage therapist who graduated from ASHA School of Massage and then joined the staff there teaching with Ira Wikel. Pat has also taught Sports Therapy and Myofascial Release for Gwinnett College, Sandy Springs. Pat uses the principles of IRT in his daily practice. The addition of a second instructor in the IRT series ensures that each student will get the most of their hands-on instruction.
