Day 1: Taylor Fascial Fundamentals: Level 1

This workshop will give participants an introduction to the “Taylor Technique” style of myofascial assessment & treatment, and how to incorporate this work into their current practice. Specifically, strain/counter strain, using limbs as levers, pin & drag, skin rolling, pick up & roll are all shown in several areas of the body, focusing on palpation of superficial and deep layers of fascia, and differentiating between the two.

Learning about the elements of fascia and how to dialogue on this topic with prospective and current clients, will help participants incorporate this work into their current massage practice while managing client expectations. Therapists will become proficient at using these techniques everywhere in the body, and the focused hands-on practice in palpation is a skill that will be demonstrated throughout the seminar, in addition to body mechanics.

This class is the platform for the other 9 topics in the level 1 series and gives the healthcare practitioner a firm foundation in applying palliative skill effectively. Day 2: Myofascial Assessment & Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction, and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

This workshop will take therapists through a detailed HOPMNRS assessment of the TMJ and Cervical Spine, then progress into treatment ideas to release the TMJ/Thoracic Outlet and surrounding fascial tissues.

The focus will be on the release of the Trapezius & SCM, which share the same fascial sheath, and how to differentiate this superficial layer from the deeper muscles of the cervical spine. How to use the ear, which connects directly to the TMJ, to facilitate the opening of the joint indirectly, as well as direct treatment modalities to the temporomandibular joint itself will be shown, via soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques. Release of the sternal, clavipectoral, deltopectoral fascias and the galea aponeurotica within the context of affecting the upper tracks of the deep front fascial line are valuable tools in resetting postural contributors to these disorders. Mastoid, jugular foramen, and hyoid/throat modalities will also be shown, as well as direct treatment procedures for the temporalis, masseter, medial and lateral pterygoids. A cylindrical approach to treating the many compartments of the cervical spine comfortably will be the primary focus, as TMJ Disorder and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is dramatically improved by the postural balance in this region.

Pain-free intra-oral work using gloves will round out the many treatment approaches taught during the class, as well as discussion of how to effectively work within the pain tolerance of the patient in this region. Dealing with the somato-emotional release will also be covered, to prepare the therapist for this potential when treating this disorder.
