Post Operative Care: Providing Physical Therapy Support
With the evolving health care system in this country, massage therapists are being called upon more than ever to assist and support patients in post operative settings as early as possible. This workshop takes the practitioner through the acute, subacute, and chronic phases of post operative clinical cases, with detailed approaches and techniques best suited to effectively handling surgical recovery outcomes.
Using all the tools in a massage therapist’s arsenal, while staying within the scope of practice, can seem an intimidating prospect. However, after completing this workshop, you will feel more confident working within therapeutic guidelines to help your patients get from the early stages of pain management, through complete recovery and maintenance treatment.
Techniques such as basic Manual Lymph Drainage, Hydrotherapy concepts, and using the basics of first aid, such as elevation & ice, to improve a client’s condition are emphasized. In addition, which manual techniques are appropriate, and at what stages to apply them is covered in detail, with practitioners spending most of the day in hands-on practice of these exciting concepts!
Myofascial Treatment of Scar Tissue
This workshop is focused on myofascial treatment of superficial and deep scar tissue. Therapists will use fascial fundamental techniques from the Taylor Fascial approach to create functional scar tissue, by separating adhesions between scars and surrounding connective tissues (fascia, muscle, periosteum, bone, etc.).
Different treatment approaches are used to work successfully on superficial basic scarring, as opposed to deep, thickened and treatment resistant scars. New versus old scar tissue treatment modalities are covered, as well as using heat to facilitate the process. Safe timing & contra-indications for working on scars, as well as ideas for effective treatment progression, are discussed thoroughly. Participants will have the opportunity to work on each others scars, in order to gain confidence for future practice of this type of work.
