Ira Wikel - Ilial, Lumbar, & Thoracic Mobilization Workshop (IRT 1)

Description:

This is not a chiropractic course.

Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to improve your clients structure, balance and movement through the use of specific Muscle Energy, Joint Mobilization and Myofascial release techniques. I look at the hips [the ilium] as the beginning point in the process of structural balance. Over 30 muscles attach on and around the hip joint. Ida Rolf called the hip “the joint that determines symmetry”. I view the hips as the foundation for structural balance. I look at the functional and structural health of the hip joint in all clients-not just those in pain. From this starting point we will also assess and correct ILIAL mal-alignment, anterior/posterior rotations and in/out flares. LUMBAR and THORACIC sidebends, rotations and other dysfunctions. The outcome will help with postural distortions, muscular tonicity, low, mid and upper back pain. We will utilize a combination of soft tissue manual therapy techniques designed to be effective, designed to be efficient and designed to be pain free.

Integrated Restoration Techniques {IRT} is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT. A massage therapist since 1982, Ira had been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After several hundred hours of continuation education , he put together this “greatest hits” package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and looks forward to teaching more massage therapists these methods.

This is a hands on class please wear comfortable, loose clothing and shorts as we will be both assessing and correcting both the hips and thoracic spine.
Massage oil is not required.
Please bring sheets, both top and bottom

All of Ira’s classes come with a 50 page workbook.

Ira Wikel - IRT 3-Myofascial Release

Description:

This is not a chiropractic course.

Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.

Fascia is a layer of fibrous tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, binding some structures together while permitting other to slide smoothly over each other. This class is a Direct Fascial technique with thirty specific routines included.

Fascia is continuous with specialized elements of fascia such as tendons and ligaments. Tendons and ligaments share with the general fascia collagen fibers, elastic fibers, cellular elements and ground substances. Mechanorecptors and proprioceptors are found in these specialized elements and report to the brain and spinal cord information on body position and movement.

By working with the fascial envelope you can begin to correct any mal-alignments of the body including: postural, positional, work or sport related, as well as physical and emotional issues.

Integrated Restoration Techniques is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT. Ira Wikel - IRT 5 - Positional Release and Strain Counter Strain Techniques

Description:

Integrated Restoration Technique is a comprehensive approach toward treatment of soft tissue pain, dysfunction and sport performance utilizing the following: Structural assessment, Structural alignment, Myofascial Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique and Russian medical massage.

Positional Release Technique is a method of total body evaluation using tender points [TP’s] and a position of ease {POE]} to resolve the associated dysfunction. This technique is well suited for clients that are in a great deal of discomfort such as Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia rheumatic or chronic fatigue syndrome, because the client’s body part is moved away from the resistance barrier, i.e., the direction of greatest ease.

Furthermore, these techniques are passive, the therapist performs all the movement without the help of the client. All three planes of movement are used to attain the position of greatest comfort. Once the most severe tender points are found, they are palpated as a guide to help find the POE. The POE produces optimal relaxation of the involved tissues.

Integrated Restoration Techniques [IRT] is the brain child of Ira Wikel, LMT.  A licensed massage therapist since 1982, Ira had been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After several hundred hours of continuation education, he put together this ‘greatest hits’ package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and look forward to teaching more massage therapists these methods.

This is a hands on class please wear comfortable, loose clothing and shorts as we will be both assessing and correcting full body dysfunctions.

All of Ira’s classes come with a 50 page workbook.

Magnus Eklund

Synergetic™ Myofascial Therapy Certification – Level 1

Description: This course presents the fundamental concepts and strategies of
Synergetic™ Myofascial Therapy, which is based on the the work of Dr Ida P. Rolf.

  • Learn how to combine hands – on myofascial techniques with active
    movements from the client.
  • Learn postural and movement assessments to better understand how to improve structure through specific applications of myofascial techniques.
  • Learning these skills will help you sequence a customized SMT session for clients and can be integrated into your practice with ease.
  • Learn the first 3 sessions of the SMT 10, 1: the front body, 2: the side body and 3: the back body. You will also learn how to prepare the body for safe work in deeper muscles and fascia.

“Magnus’s instructional style leads to that crystal clear moment we all hope for when investing in a hands-on massage
CE seminar; that moment of revelation when one realizes this work just makes sense. Powerful and effective, this is
something I can do to make a genuine difference in the well being of my clients. Magnus’s three-part DVD series is an
invaluable learning tool to use as a complement to his CE seminars.”
Melissa K. Benson, LMT – LA 3406

“It’s the fascia that envelops and crosses joints. Joints become the red flags; they tell you if and how something is wrong. You have to look for relationship, not only of joints, but within all of the mesodermal tissue. This will give you a more inclusive picture of what is going on in a body than if you look only at the muscles.” –Dr. Ida P. Rolf

A lesson manual will be provided. SMT DVDs available for purchase.

Bring: Shorts, bathing suit top, sports bra, tube top, sheets, lotion and a soft pillow. Note: This workshop is not meant to substitute for traditional medical care, nor diagnose medical conditions, nor manipulate bones, but to educate massage therapists on how to safely apply massage techniques on clients. Attendees understand that massage may cause
soreness, & is not without injury risk. If you have health concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to attending.

A massage therapist since 1982, Ira has been looking for techniques that would produce excellent results without taxing his body. After thirty years of continuing education classes, he put together this ‘greatest hits’ package based on the therapeutic options that work for him. He continues to use them in his practice today and looks forward to teaching more therapists these methods.

AROMATHERAPY FOR THE MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT: A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO MYOFASCIAL PAIN AND BEYOND.

Did you know? “….there is virtually no people known to anthropology – however remote, isolated, or primitive – in which some form of doctoring with plants, was not practiced.”– Barbara Griggs, Green Pharmacy

SOME ISSUES ADDRESSED:
WHAT EMOTION RULES MY CLIENT’S LIFE? HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TYPE OF OILS TO USE ON MY CLIENT?  WHY IS MY CLIENT STILL NOT GETTING SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER? HOW CAN I CUT DOWN ON TREATMENT TIME?

Essential oils have been used since ancient times all over the world to heal the body and sanctify the spirit. They are a connecting path to nature and our inner selves. Plants have been longer on our planet than us  and  we are privileged to borrow from their immune system and support our own inner intelligence. The course offers a deeper perspective to physical problems by looking at the mind - body connection through the window of Chinese  Five - Element Theory and the use of essential aromatherapy oils.

PURPOSE OF COURSE:

  • Understanding the use and effects of oils and blends on the individual’s body and emotions
  • Understanding of the psyche of the individual and the relation of the Limbic System to essential oils
  • Drawing up of a treatment plan incorporating essential oils, oil blends and massage techniques to address the mind-body and spirit.
  • Unwinding the individual through the use of specific neurolymphatic points with essential oils
  • How to select the best essential oils in a confusing market.
  • What to use FOR BEST POSSIBLE ABSORPTION:  Diffusion, massage, ingestion or everything?
  • Why essential oils are more potent than herbs/ teas and safer than Western medications
  • Understanding the use of Raindrop therapy techniques.
  • Essential oils used in the Bible and Middle East and their modern significance

Special time is devoted to oils related to skin esthetics and acupressure treatments!
For a list of oils contact instructor.
